A 21-year-old labourer, Umar Abdullahi, was Thursday docked in a Gwagwalada Magistrates’ Court, FCT, for allegedly stealing an armoured cable worth N75,000.
The police charged Abdullahi, who resides in Fort Royal Estate, Abuja, with mischief and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Sunday Iyakwo, told the court that the complainant, Abubakar John of Fort royal Estate FCT, Abuja reported the matter at Iddo police station on Oct. 1.
Iyakwo said that the defendant on Sept. 29 damaged the cable that was connected from the electric transformer to a borehole in the estate.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 327 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Oladunmoye Olatunji admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Olatunji ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must have a verifiable address.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 13 for hearing.
