Lagos politician and former governorship candidate, Babatunde Gbadamosi, has resigned his membership of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), saying the decision followed extensive consultations and careful consideration.
Gbadamosi announced his resignation in a post on X on Tuesday, revealing that he had formally notified the party’s National Chairman of his decision in a letter dated July 9, 2026.
He said he decided to make the letter public after receiving no response from the party.
“On Thursday 9th July, 2026, after extensive consultation and careful consideration, I wrote to the National Chairman of the NDC, informing him of my immediate resignation from my membership of the party,” Gbadamosi wrote.
“I have not had a response, and have therefore elected to make the email public, for records purposes.”
In the resignation letter addressed to the National Chairman of the NDC, Gbadamosi reflected on his political journey, stating that he entered partisan politics in 2007 and became fully active in 2010 out of a desire to help Lagos State realise its full potential.
He described his time in the NDC as a rewarding experience, expressing appreciation for the relationships he built within the party.
“It has been an honour, even if brief, to be a member of this great party, and I will always cherish this part of my political journey,” the letter read.
Explaining his decision to leave, Gbadamosi said his original motivation for joining politics remained his guiding principle, adding that consultations with stakeholders in Lagos informed his decision to step away from the party.
“Due to my initial reason for entering the political space, I am compelled to formally inform you of my decision, after due consultations with stakeholders in Lagos, to resign from the party, effective immediately,” he stated.
Despite his exit, the politician maintained a conciliatory tone, expressing optimism that he and the party would cross paths again in the future.
“No doubt, our paths will cross again, for the better. Until then, please accept my highest consideration,” he concluded.
Copies of the resignation letter were also addressed to the NDC Ward Chairman for Isele 1 in Ikorodu, the party’s Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, and the Lagos State Chairman.
Gbadamosi did not disclose his next political move or indicate whether he intends to join another political party.
