Lawan assures of NASS continued support to Assembly service Commission

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Tuesday, pledged the support of the National Assembly to the Legislative Service Commission.

Lawan, represented by Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau, gave the assurance at a conference of the National and State Assembly Service Commission, held in Kaduna, which had as its theme, “Repositioning Assembly Service Commission for optimum service delivery.”

He said such support was vital considering the contribution of both the National Assembly and the Legislative Service Commission in the evolution of legislature.

Lawan said the conference was timely, adding that it was a veritable platform to compare notes and enhance understanding through sharing of experiences to enable good governance.

In his remarks, Gov. Nasir El-Rufai said the theme of the conference, was apt, as no country could rise above the quality of its public service.

According to him, service requires not only dedication and zeal but also the skill, knowledge, and human qualities to make the best choices in developing policies and implementing the same.

In his speech, Mr. Sani Bala, Chairman, House Committee on Public Service Matter at the National Assembly, said the conference was aimed at cross-fertilization of ideas on ways to reposition the legislative arm of government for optimum service delivery.

Bala also urged the Assembly Service Commission to ensure that category of employees in the service were patriotic, competent, and adequately motivated to perform their responsibilities.

Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, Mr. Ahmad Amshi, said the role of the Commission was to provide competent manpower to the legislators for effective service delivery.

He said the conference was organized to brainstorm on ways of improving service delivery of the staff, as well as proffer solutions to challenges.

According to him, ‘Financial Autonomy’, u is one of the contending issues, will be addressed by the conference, saying it was a vital requirement for any progress to be made.
