Lawmaker cautions youths against abuse of social media

Abiodun Tobun, a member representing Epe Constituency 1 at the  Lagos State House of Assembly, has cautioned Nigerian youths against the abuse of social media.

Tobun stated this while speaking with NAN on Sunday in Epe, Lagos.

He decried the attitude of some youths who use social media to defame people and tarnish their image.

“The youth should desist from the abuse use of social media and rather use it decently.

“There are lots of legitimate things the youths can do on the social media to earn a living, that is the avenue they should explore, ” he said.

The lawmaker warned emissaries to refrain from using youths to perpetuate character assassination and damage personalities on social media.

“This is a gross misconduct and abuse use of innocent youths.

“We should serve as a role model to the youths and not mislead them.

“My advice to the youths is to be guided, don’t let anybody use you for political gain or personal interest.

“Youth should learn how to do the right thing at all times and for the right purposes, ” he said.

Tobun urged the youths remain hopeful despite the current economic situation, adding that the “storm” would soon be over.

He said: “It is a matter of time, every hardship will soon be over in the country.

“Our governments are trying their best to normalise the situation of the country, with time we will all experience a favourable economy.

“Nothing good comes easy, development comes with hardship, let endure the pain together for now and enjoy a better tomorrow.

“Our youths should be agents of societal development not agents of destruction.

“Youths should not be enticed with money given to them by some emissaries to damage people’s personalities on social media.

“Our youths should challenge themselves to be positive-minded people that can make it in life legitimately and not making it through cybercrime or bad social media influencer.

“I believe Nigerians are talented, hardworking and resourceful, therefore, use your talent efficiently.”

The lawmaker  commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat for being proactive in harnessing the potentials of the youths for socioeconomic development
