Low turnout greets guber, assembly elections in Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA

Low turnout of voters was recorded in most part of Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local government Area of Lagos State in the ongoing Governorship and State assembly elections, especially in Amukoko area.

Our visit to some of the polling booths showed very few persons on queue waiting for accreditation and voting which have been hitch free at the time of writing this report.

Some of the voters, who spoke with our correspondent, attributed the low turnout to fear following threatens by some persons to deal with any person who will not vote for their candidates.

While some insisted that they took the risk to participate in the voting exercise because of their desire for good governance in the state.

“Don’t blame people for not coming out as they did during the Presidential and National Assembly elections. Prior to this Governorship election the threat against the non indigenes, especially those from the South East has been frightening,” a residence of Rasaki Street Amukoko, Ajeromi/Ifelidun LGA opposite Ladipo Primary School said, while pleading anonymity.

Though tension at the various polling booths in the area has been tensed with some political thugs seen parading the area, no violent has been recorded so far in the area as of 10:30 AM.

The presence of few policemen at the polling uniting may have been responsible for the relative peace recorded so far at the polling units.

The polling units visited by our correspondent include PU 067, 047 and 066, Ward K at Sari-Iganmu Nursery and Primary School-Oke Oja, Amukoko, Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local government
