Man, 25, charged with peddling 500g Cannabis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday charged a 25-year-old unemployed man, Kudus Taiwo, with drug trafficking, before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The defendant is charged on one count.

The prosecutor, Mr. Jeremiah Aernan, alleged that the defendant committed the offense on Oct. 5

He said that the defendant was arrested at Ghetto near New Market in Lekki, Lagos, for unlawfully trading in 500g of Cannabis Sativa also known as hemp.

According to the NDLEA, Cannabis along with cocaine, heroin, and others are restricted by law.

Drug trafficking contravenes the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004, which prescribes up to life imprisonment for convicted offenders.

No date has been fixed for the arraignment of the defendant.
