Man accuses Ikorodu policemen of unjustly detaining mechanic apprentice

A photographer, Dewumi Lagos, has accused police officers assigned to Emuren Police Station in Adamo of arresting and detaining a mechanic apprentice for allegedly spoiling a customer’s car.

Narrating what transpired, Dewumi said his mechanic directed his most senior apprentice to fix a customer’s car because he had left town to visit his parents.

He said trouble, however, started when the customer returned and claimed the mechanic damaged his car because it was smoking.

The photographer said the car owner immediately called some policemen loyal to him who whisked the mechanic away and detained him for several days.

He wrote, “Policemen in Ikorodu.
About 4 days ago, Oga and a boy who is the most senior person at my mechanic’s place of work fixed a car and it worked. The client picked up the car and drove to some point and said it wasn’t working again. The boss sent the boy, 23-25 years to fix it because he’s the most trusted.

“The boss had left for Iseyin to see his parents because he knew the boy would fix it. He fixed the car and they said the car was smoking. The owner said he had spoilt the car, only for the owner of the car to use his powers to call policemen and throw the young boy in the cell.

“They took his phone from him and left it unresponsive only for us to discover yesterday night after repeated calls that he was at Emuren Police station in Adamo.”

Additionally, the photographer said, “The question here is how do you encourage people to learn a craft and when there is a mistake or something to complete or when there’s a solution in view, you throw them into the police net. How do you encourage other people to learn a skill when an unsatisfied client can do this to young people?”
