A 37-year-old man, David Alajuruonye, on Friday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly pouring petrol on his cousin over a misunderstanding.
The defendant, who resides in the Ikotun area of Lagos, is standing trial on a five-count charge bordering on, assault, an attempt to cause bodily harm and breach of the peace.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on Jan. 18, at 11:20 a.m., at No. 75, Nnadi St., Liasu Road, Ikotun, Lagos.
Aigbohan alleged that the defendant during the altercation with the complainant, Miss Oluchi Alajuruonye, bragged that he was a specialist in pouring acid on people.
The prosecutor said the defendant, who had a bottle filled with petrol, subsequently poured the content on the complainant.
According to Aigbokhan, the defendant’s actions endangered the life of the complainant.
He said the defendant’s actions contravened Sections 55, 168, 170, 230 and 240 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant denied committing the offences.
The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
