Man pleads guilty to sending fake bank alert

An Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Wednesday remanded a 22-year-old man, Emmanuel Daramola, in a correctional facility for allegedly sending a fake bank alert to a company’s account.

Daramola, however, pleaded guilty to a five-count charge bordering on fraud, stealing, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

The prosecutor, Insp Benedict Aigbokhan, had told the court that the defendant committed the offenses on Jan. 16, at about 3:00 p.m. at No. 23, Apex Avenue, Alao area in Lagos.

According to the prosecutor, Daramola, fraudulently obtained some credit facilities to the tune of N15,000 from Prince Palace Hotel.

He said the defendant, who promised an electronic transfer of the said N15,000 to the hotel account, sent a fake bank alert which was received by the hotel manager, Prince Owolabi Matanmi.

“When approached by the hotel manager about the fake alert, the defendant threatened to bring thugs to destroy the hotel,” Aigbokhan said.

The prosecutor said the defendant attacked the hotel manager while trying to evade arrest, in the process hit him with a heavy object which damaged his wristwatch and a hand bead, all valued at N30,000.
