By Linus Aleke
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana has called for more investment in the local production of military armaments to cut down the capital fight associated with importation of military hardware.

He said that local manufacturing of military armaments will help the Armed Forces of Nigerian, bring to an abrupt end the lingering cases of banditry, terrorism, insurgency and other emerging security threats in the country.

Dr. Kana made this call, over the weekend, while interacting with Defence Correspondent in Abuja.

He noted that it is time to move away from furniture manufacturing at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), to production of real defence equipment.

He said that local production of weapons will not only help hasten the defeat of terrorism and banditry in Nigeria but also generate employment opportunities for the army of unemployed citizens.

He pointed out that because of the ongoing Russia/Ukraine war, the Russian authority has place embargo on sale of bullets to other countries of the world.

He further observed that the move by Russian authority will trigger scarcity of bullet, as well as price hike at the international market.

The Permanent Secretary disclosed that all the companies producing bullet across the globe are already fully booked.

While noting that the incumbent administration has degraded the capacity of terrorists and insurgents to carry out significant attacks, Dr. Kana, expressed the commitment of Buhari’s administration to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), succeed in the conduct of 2023 general elections.
