Mixed reactions as Saudi Arabia enters representative for Miss Universe

Mixed reactions have continued to pour as a Saudi Arabian woman, Rumy Alqahtani, will in a historic first, participate in the 2024 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.

In an Instagram post, Alqahtani expressed her honor at being selected to compete in the Miss Universe 2024 competition.

She wrote, “I am honored to participate in the Miss Universe 2024 competition. This is the first participation of Saudi Arabia in the Miss Universe competition.”

The upcoming Miss Universe competition will take place in Mexico on September 18 and will also witness Iran’s debut.

The development, has, however, earned Saudi Arabia both knocks and taps on the back.

While some rained praises on Rumy for the inaugural representation, some others blasted her, stating that her action and that of the country, will ridicule the Islamic faith.

A X user, Dr MJ Augustine Vinod wrote, “Don’t take this flag to Pakistan 🇵🇰 They don’t know how to read Arabic. For the ‘Saare Kaale Akshar 🐃 baarabar’. They will lynch you.”

With an accompanying picture of Rumy holding the Saudi Arabian flag, @Almutawakkil550 posted, “It has become clear that Yemen has proven itself to be trustworthy and sincere in defending the causes of the nation of Muslims,Gaza has revealed to history that Saudi Arabia is more despicable and lower than its self-proclaimed title of the guardian of Islam and leader of Muslims.”

For Baron Chymaker, a X user, “There is nothing that is unusual with the Saudi lady joining a beauty pageant. It is only in Nigeria that Muslims are more faithful than Prophet Mohammed or the custodian of the Islam faith.

“After all Niki Minaj was supposed to twerk and display premium BBL in that country with MBS watching.”

“Who has authorised Saudi government to play with Kalima e Tauheed? If they are there to bootlick the modern world, let them be but not at the expense of religion. Shame,” Faiz IN-DIA voiced out.

Outofshape, an Instagram user congratulated Rumy and prayed for Saudi Arabia to win the contest.
