Muftwang mourns slain Plateau residents

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has expressed sorrow over recent attacks on several communities in the state, describing it as a gory Christmas.

ThisNigeria reported that at least 17 communities were attacked, leaving many dead and injured.

He emphasized the need to disrupt the funding channels of these criminal elements.

“This indeed has been a very gory Christmas for us, we have had to celebrate with a heavy heart because just when people were finishing preparations for the Christmas celebrations, unprovoked attacks were unleashed on several of our communities.

“As I’m talking to you, in Mangu local government alone, we buried at least 15 people so far

“As at this morning in Bokos local government, we are counting not less than a 100 corpses, Abia to take stock of that of Barkiladi.

“Most of the communities affected in Barkiladi share border with Bokos local government.

“And the last count also, we have not less than 17 communities that were completely touched and brought down by these bandits and criminals.

“It has been a very very terrifying Christmas for us here on the plateau.

“This particular set of attacks were well coordinated with heavy weaponry and the question we needed to ask who is behind this? Who is sponsoring this? And I can tell you that it’s beyond my capacity as a governor to unravel this.

“The security agencies must do their work to be able to identify who are the sponsors of these attackers, who are the people that purchase arms for them, where did the resources for the purchase of the arms come from.

“Because until we cut off the supply in terms of sponsorship, we may never be able to see the end of this.

“We need to have reinforcements, with the magnitude of what we have seen, it means that we need to be able to have more boots on ground to be able to contain the situation.

“This is the appeal we are going to be making across to the service chiefs.

“The army headquarters has responded, the IG has also responded, they are sending more reinforcements,” he said.
