Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that his three-month break from social media shut down the Nigerian music industry.
According to the singer, he received the appeal from both fans and trolls in November 2022 when he went for a break following the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke
He said, “I knew that people love me because when I was not active online, the whole [Nigerian music] industry was shut down. I was seeing tweets like, ‘We do love him’, ‘It’s so quiet out here’, ‘Davido come back.’ Even the fans who hate me were like, ‘Please, come back, we need to bash you’.”
Recall that Davido took a break from social media in November 2022 after losing his son, Ifeanyi, to a swimming pool accident at his Lagos mansion.
He returned to social media in March 2023 to announce his fourth album, ‘Timeless’, amid excitement.
