My experiences as backup singer shaped my artistry — Nelly Baradi

Singer Nelly Baradi has revealed that her experiences as a backup singer were what shaped her artistry.

The artist told Punch during an interview that, “Each collaboration taught me something new about my own craft — and the power of subtlety.”

She also opened up about the bold steps she took to chase her dreams in the music industry.

Baradi recounted how she left the comfort of her hometown to start afresh in Lagos.

She said, “For me, the journey has always been about taking risks — even when it meant leaving comfort behind. In 2018, I left my hometown of Sapele (Delta State) and moved to Lagos with nothing but dreams. It was my leap of faith. I left comfort behind and entered a space where I had to prove myself quietly. That hunger sharpened my sound.”

Before stepping into the spotlight as a solo act, Baradi lent her voice to songs such as Seyi Vibes’ ‘Man of the Year’ and Mohbad’s ‘Peace’, ‘Ask About Me’, and ‘Blessing’.
