NAF: Air Commodore Gabkwet hands over to new Spokesperson

The erstwhile Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore, Edward Gabkwet has handed over the mantle of leadership of the Directorate to the new Spokesperson, Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida.

In his remarks at the colourful ceremony at NAF headquarters, Abuja, the out gone Spokesperson appealed to the media to extend the same cooperation accorded him during his short sojourn in the Directorate to the new Spokesperson.

While expressing excitement for handing over the mantle of leadership to another officer from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, he expressed optimism that the new Spokesperson will excel on the job.

Air Commodore Gabkwet, who is now the Commander 551 NAF Station, Jos, noted that his successor is immensely qualified to handle the task of portraying the Service in a good light, especially in a war time like this.

On his part, the new NAF Spokesperson, Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, thanked the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao for finding him worthy to speak for the Service.

He noted that he is awake to his enormous task of projecting the service positively to garner the required cooperation and support of the public towards NAf ongoing operations across several theatres.

While, applauding the contribution of the immediate past Spokesperson, Maigida pledged to consolidate on the achievements of his predesessor.

Maigida who promised to promote the core values of the Nigerian Air Force, during his tenure, also called for media support to enable him succeed.

Air Cdre Wapkerem Maigida, a member of 42 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), was commissioned into the NAF in 1995.

He holds Master of Science Degree in Security and Strategic Studies and Bachelor of Arts Degree in History both from NDA. He equally obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertisement from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos.
