The FCT magistrate court, Wuse , Abuja has ruled that the six EndSARS protesters, arrested Friday morning be remanded in the correctional center pending when their bail applications are met.
ThisNigeria recalls that the police on Friday teargassed some EndSARS protesters in Abuja. The protesters who were arrested at the gate of the National Assembly, NASS had painted EndSARS graffiti on the ground to remind the Nigerian Government of their demands.
Giving the ruling, the magistrate, Justice Eneye pointed out that the defendant reliance on section 163 of the criminal code is not strong enough to grant bail application.
The magistrate ruled that oral bail application is inimical to the defendants prayer. He said that section 162 of the criminal code provided for proper written bail application.
The protesters were charged on four counts of criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, unlawful possession and public nuisance.
The defendants led by Tope Akinyode said the bail applications will be met as ruled by the court.
Next hearing was adjourned to January 25, 2021.
