The leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday took steps to broker a truce between its governors, the Federal Government, and the Central Bank of Nigeria over the naira swap policy that had caused hardship from scarcity of the new notes.

This is coming ahead of tomorrow’s (Wednesday) resumption of the Supreme Court suit filed by Governors of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara States over the cash swap policy of the CBN.

The party at a meeting with governors elected under its platform on Sunday advised the Federal Government and CBN to honour the order of the Supreme Court on the policy.

Party source disclosed that the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu invited the three governors and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to a meeting for an out-of-court solution to the legal tussle before the next hearing of the suit.

Meanwhile yesterday also in a meeting with the APC Progressive Governors Forum, the National Chairman of the party urged Attorney General Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene so that the cash swap policy imbroglio can be addressed.

The Attorney-General of the Federation who came in from Ethiopia was said to have driven to the party secretariat where he was later joined by Governors Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna); Yayaha Bello (Kogi) and Matawalle Bello (Zamfara).

The three governors are key actors in the dispute tearing the party apart.

The chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Kebbi Governor, Atiku Bagudu, and former Zamfara Governor, Abdulaziz Yari also joined the meeting.

The meeting, which lasted almost two hours, also attracted Deputy National Chairman (North) Senator Abubakar Kyari; Deputy National Chairman (South) Chief Emma Eneukwu, and the National Secretary, Otunba Iyiola Omisore.

Efforts by the newsmen to get the reaction after the meeting failed as Adamu, who led the governors and the Minister out of his office barred journalists from asking questions.

The chairman simply said, “Newsmen, you are here again. We are on the same page. You can go” and led the governors to their cars.

On Sunday the party backed the position of the governors and advised the Federal Government and the apex bank to honour the Supreme Court order stopping the implementation of the naira redesign policy.
