Nasarawa: JUSUN suspends indefinite strike for 2 weeks

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its indefinite strike for two weeks.

The union suspended the strike to allow further negotiations with the state government over its outstanding demands.

JUSUN state Chairman Mas’ud Ubangari made this known when addressing members of the union on Thursday in Lafia.

“Suspension will enable the state government to set up a committee to address the union’s outstanding demands.

“This will include the implementation of the 51 per cent salary structure for judiciary workers in the state,” he said.

Ubangari commended the members for their resilience, unity and commitment throughout the period of the strike.

He said the suspension followed a reconciliatory meeting convened at the instance of the state Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe.

“The meeting, which had in attendance the National President of JUSUN, Comrade Marwan Mustapha, and other critical stakeholders, yielded positive outcomes and assurances from the government,” he said.

Ubangari expressed optimism that the state government would fulfil its promises within the two-week period.

The chairman directed members to resume work at their various duty posts immediately, pending further directives from the union after the two-week period.

That, he said, would follow possible conclusion of negotiations with the state government.

He urged judiciary workers to remain resolute, law-abiding and dedicated to their duties as they resumed work.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the union embarked on the industrial action on Sept. 14 to press for improved welfare for its members. (NAN)
