Two men died on Thursday morning in a collision involving a truck and a commercial bus at Ogere Junction on the Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the crash occurred at about 5:10 a.m. and involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC 660 XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus whose registration number could not be immediately ascertained.
Four adult males were involved in the accident; two lost their lives while the other two escaped unhurt.
FRSC spokesperson Afolabi Odunsi said preliminary investigations identified speeding and route violation as the likely causes of the crash.
“The impact of the collision led to the Peugeot J5 bus catching fire, with its front section completely burnt,” he said.
Odunsi added that rescue teams arrived at the scene within minutes, diverted traffic to an alternative carriageway and worked to remove the wreckage to restore the free flow of vehicles.
The remains of the deceased were subsequently evacuated by officers of the Police Motor Traffic Division in Ogbere and deposited at a mortuary.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, condoled with the families of the victims and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, warning that speeding and route violations remain major contributors to fatal crashes, particularly during periods of poor visibility and on wet roads.
He reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to safer highways through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment and prompt rescue operations.
