Neighbors docked for fighting in public

An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Monday, docked two neighbors: Ademu Shaibu, 47, and Juliet Akiola, 37 for fighting in public.

The police charged the defendants, who reside in Angwan Dodo, Gwagwalada, Abuja, with disturbance of public peace.

The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the information was received from Angwan Dodo, Gwagwalada, Abuja on March 14.

Tanko said the defendants, due to an argument between them, engaged themselves in a physical fight in a public place thereby causing a breach of public peace.

He said as a result of the fight Shaibu sustained an injury.

He said the offense contravened the provisions of section 113 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Sani Umar, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Umar ordered that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and their addresses verified by court staff.

He said the sureties must provide valid means of identification and two recent passport photographs.

He adjourned the case until May 11 for a hearing.
