NGF to hold emergency meeting, find ways to avert strike

Governors of the 36 states are set to hold an emergency meeting today at 6 pm.

This emergency meeting is to discuss the threat by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to embark on an industrial action to demand that the Federal Government rescinds its decision on the recent hike in the prices of petroleum products and electricity.

The NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have announced that there will be an industrial strike on September 28 if the Federal Government refuses to reduce the prices of petroleum products and electricity.

Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, Head of Media and Public Affairs for the Nigerian Governor’s Forum (NGF) issued a statement that there will be an emergency meeting on Thursday, 6 pm, to find ways of settling the rift and finding a mutual agreement.

This meeting will be virtual and all the governors are expected to attend. Bello-Barkindo described the matter as “urgent national importance” and that it needs to be resolved quickly ince the COVID-19 pandemic has already created a lot of hardships for Nigerians.
