Niger Delta Games: Team Edo coasting to victory as Delta mount pressure

With less than three days to round up the ongoing Niger Delta Games in Benin City, hosts, Team Edo look certain for the crown as they lead comfortably on the medal table.

Official medal table as of the early hours of Tuesday, 24th of February, 2026 shows that Team Edo have won 22 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze medals to currently sit at the summit of the table.

They are closely followed by Team Delta that have won 14 gold, 19 silver and 11 bronze medals, while last year’s champions, Team Bayelsa are placed third, having so far won 13 gold, seven silver and 11 bronze medals.

Team Abia are looking great to create upset as they sit fourth above Cross Rivers, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo and Ondo States with three gold, six silver and two bronze medals.

Fifth placed Cross River, have so far won total 16 medals of three gold, three silver and 10 bronze, while sixth placed Rivers can only boast of two gold, seven silver and 20 bronze to make it a total of 19 medals.

Meanwhile, Edo State Sports Commission Executive Chairman, Desmond Enabulele has urged Team Edo not lower their charge for the crown

“Yes, the medal table shows Edo on top but my advise to our athletes is to keep up with their performance till the end,” he said, while visiting the various centres to motivate Team Edo athletes.
