Niger protesters block major road leading to Abuja over hardship

Many residents Niger State have taken to the streets and major roads in the state to protest against the rising cost of living.
In less than three days before the planned nationwide protest to address the ongoing hardship in the country, the protesters blocked Kaduna Road, a highway in the state linking Kaduna to Abuja.
In a video posted on X by a user, @Dr_dabo1, the protesters carried placards with several inscriptions such as ‘We Are Not Slaves’, ‘Enough is Enough’; ‘Stop Anti-Masses Policies’, ‘Hardship Is Unbearable’ and ‘Fuel Subsidy Must Be Back.’
Speaking in the video, one of the protesters who spoke in the Hausa language said protest in the state started on Sunday.
The protester, who identified himself as Mohammed Kabir Baban Doki, said, “They have increased fuel price and made life difficult for us. We came out for protest but the police is not letting us do our thing. Some people came out yesterday and were not stopped but we are. As law-abiding citizens, we will return home and wait until Thursday.”
