Nigeria at 60: Ganduje invest over N800m on security gadgets. Calls for national unity

Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has disclosed that the state government has invested over N800 million to upgrade security facilities at the state police headquarters in Bompai.
The state governor in his independence day speech made available to journalists by his Chief Press Secretary , Abba Anwar , on Thursday in Kano said “We spent over N400m to install modern security system at the State Police Command Headquarters.
“Another over N400m for tracking system with our security apparatus.”
Ganduje noted that the state government has commenced the upgrading of four hospitals located within the newly created emirate council.
“We are spending over N3.5b for the procurement of equipments, furniture and other things in those four 400-bedded hospitals.”
Ganduje revealed that the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the supply of 100 buses with the aim to improve public transport system in the state.
“Kano is now becoming a first choice destination for conferences, workshops, training programmes among many others.” Ganduje stated.
Our correspondent reports that governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje during the celebration of Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary, held at Kano Pillars stadium, Sabon -Gari, Kano, said “ We all need to be steadfast and forge a common front, so that we can use and enjoy freedom, we gain in the last 60 years, as a nation. We must also commend our forefathers who fought for our common goal, Nigerians must join hands together to forge ahead, so as to make the nation greater at all times.
He explained that this year’s independence celebration was observed in a low keyed fashion owing to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, “we must abide by the COVID-19 protocols. While celebrating we should also be cautious of the pandemic.
“When COVID-19 came calling the space was tensed, but when we joined hands and took measures, we were able to tackle the pandemic. We must therefore work together to improve our personal hygiene.”
Ganduje boasted that his administration has performed tremendously well in the area of implementing peoples oriented programmes, citing the establishment of RUGA settlements, which he described as the first of its kind in the country, adding that the state government also established 15 Tsangaya Models schools and the establishment of military training ground in the heart of the dreaded Falgore forest.
The dignitaries that attended this year’s independence day celebration includes , the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, the 5 Emirs , members of the National Assembly, state Commissioners and other members of the state Executive Council, heads of security agencies, leaders of ethnic nationalities, among others.
