Rivers Governor, Fubara defects to APC

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fubara announced his defection on Tuesday at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

His move comes just days after 16 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, declared their defection from the PDP to the APC.

The lawmakers, who announced their decision on Friday, cited deep divisions within the PDP as the reason for their exit.

Amaewhule, while addressing the assembly, said he had formally joined the APC and would “join hands with Mr President,” whom he praised for “meaning well for the country.”

Fubara now joins a growing list of political figures who have switched to the APC this year. More details are expected as the situation unfolds.
