Nigerian man allegedly killed by police in Canada

The family of a 19-year-old man, Afolabi Stephen Opaso, is demanding justice after he was reportedly shot and killed by the police in Canada.

It was reported that the tragic incident occurred over the weekend when the police responded to a well-being call involving a possibly armed man acting erratically at an apartment building at 77 University Crescent.

According to reports, officers arrived at one of the suites where they found Opaso and two other people.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has issued a news release stating that it is looking into the incident.

Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth told reporters that Opaso was armed with two knives when police officers shot him.

Smyth added that Opaso was inside the suite with a 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man, all of whom appeared to know each other.

According to the police chief, the call to the police was made by someone in the suite, but Smyth stated that it did not appear to be a hostage situation.

He said, “I don’t get that sense from the original information, but the caller was quite concerned.”
