Nigerian Mother Drags Chinese National, Textile Company, 3 Others To Court …

An aggrieved Mother, Hajiya Habiba Aliyu a resident of Unguwar Dosa, Kaduna state has dragged a Chinese national, M S. Ling and Kano renown textile firm Mudatex and Brothers before a Federal High court sitting in Kano over the alleged infringement on the rights of her deceased daughter, late Nafisa Aliyu.
The plaintiff in the originating summons told the court that the respondents and three others extracted artworks from the social media page of her late daughter, alleging that the artwork was imprinted on textile materials without the consent of the plaintiff.
The defendants, namely M S Ling, (Chinese national) Hong Kong Runda textile Company limited, Mudatex and Brothers, Dan Kano Na Kano and Sani Tahir collaborated and branded textile materials with the extracted pictures of the deceased and proceeded to sell same to the public, the court heard.
Counsel to the plaintiff further informed the court that the defendants acted in a manner that infringed on the rights of late Nafisa.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Nuradeen Ayagi filed a Preliminary Objection(PO) challenging the suit before the court.
The presiding judge, justice Sa’adatu Ibrahim adjourned the matter to 1st December 2020, for the hearing of the Preliminary Objection(PO) filed by the defendants.
