Nigerian Traders in Ghana Lament over Store Closure

Nigerian traders in Ghana are decrying the closure of their shops by the Ghanaian authorities through an inter-ministerial task force.
This closure was carried out through the week and the following documents were requested: documents on registration of the business, taxes, resident permit, standard control and Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC) registration.
The President of the Nigerian Traders Union in Ghana, Mr Chukwuemeka Nnaji, expressed concern because not all members have the documents, especially the GIPC which requires a payment of $1million. He is also not confident that they can regularise things within the stipulated 14 days.
Other factors that must be fulfilled include employing a minimum of 25 skilled Ghanaian workers and not trading in commodities that Ghanaian traders have applied to.
