Kidnappers abduct Ondo cleric, son, reject N1m ransom offer

Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped an Anglican cleric, Ven. Olu Obanla along Ifon-Okeluse Road in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state.

His son was also kidnapped by the gunmen.

It was gathered that the victims were traveling along the road when the hoodlums accosted and dragged them into the bush to an unknown destination.

A source said shortly after the abduction, the bandits contacted the family and demanded a sum of N10million for the release of the victims.

The family were unable to get the money as they could only gather N1million which they refused.

The source said: “Venerable Olu Obanla and his son were kidnapped on Saturday on their way to Okeluse in Ondo State.

” The kidnappers have contacted the family and ransom of N10million was being demanded by the kidnappers, but the family had raised N1million, but the kidnappers rejected it.”

Spokesperson of the state command, Mrs Odunlami, confirmed the incident and said efforts were on going by the detectives of the command to rescue the victims.

226 immigration, correctional, NSCDC officers get promotion

No fewer than 226 officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been promoted.

The promotion of the top management officers was disclosed in a statement yesterday by the Secretary, Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Mrs Aisha Rufai.

Rufai revealed that the promotion was approved by the board on May 19, taking into cognisance merit and other considerations such as Federal Character principle.

According to her, 66 NCoS senior officers were promoted including 23 officers as Assistant Controller General (ACG) and 43 to the rank of Controller of Corrections (CC).

NIS recorded a total of 98 officers: four officers to the rank of Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration (DCGI), 24 to the rank of Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration (ACGI) and 70 to the rank of Comptroller of Immigration (CIS).

A total of 62 NSCDC officers were promoted: five officers to the rank of Deputy Commandant General of Corps (DCG), 22 officers to the rank of Assistant Commandant General of Corps (ACG) and 35 officers to the rank of Commandant of Corps (CC).

She urged the newly promoted officers to continue to contribute their quota towards achieving their mandates and ensuring internal security in the country.

The Secretary said although the Federal Fire Service (FFS) is a member of the board, the promotion list included no officer of the FFS because their promotion was underway.
