Nigerians react as Dangote Refinery commences production
Some Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the commencement of production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol, by the Dangote Refinery situated in Lagos.
The Dangote Refinery, a $20 billion project spearheaded by billionaire Aliko Dangote officially began production of petrol on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s energy sector.
This development is expected to alleviate the ongoing petrol scarcity that has gripped the nation, offering much-needed relief to millions of Nigerians.
Reacting to the development, some Nigerians expressed home in the new refinery, while some others believe that it will yield little or no impact on the country’s energy sector.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, described the project as God’s own saying, “All roads lead to the magnificent octopus and the bull work called Dangote Refinery. It could not be better. God is about to do something new in Nigeria and nobody can stop an idea whose time has come. Nigeria wins in no uncertain terms.”
Another netizen, Hon Rilwan, predicted the price of the PMS saying, “Dangote said he’s happy to give energy to the people, if we are going by his word then his fuel should not be more than 150/ltr.”
For him, an X user, Bakatsine said, “As far as I’m concerned, it’s partially good news, until I see the positive effects of it in our communities & its benefits to the poor people. If it doesn’t appear to be the same problem of fuel as usual then I will regard it as full-time good news. I don’t like deceiving myself in the name of being a progressive.”
“I laugh in Chinese for those who think that Dangote’s fuel is coming to reduce the most hardship and reduction in prices of fuel, that’s a very big lie. If you see what’s happening with his cement and how he has made lives very hard for people by building materials hike,” Kingsley Iheme said, expressing doubts in the refinery.
Another user, Ken Uttih said, “This is huge!!!! A huge win for Nigeria. Many thanks to the bull himself, Aliko Dangote. The one who dared where everyone ran away from. Bigger risk, bigger reward. He deserves it.”
Engr Oche Israel wrote, “I am grateful to God for this, but hope it will not be expensive like Dangote Cement beyond the reach of the common man.”
