Nigerians react as Twitter deletes Buhari’s “genocidal” tweet

Tobi Adebayo
Nigerians have commended the CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey for deleting a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari, threatening to deal with Nigerians in the “language they understand.”

Buhari had in a series of tweets on Tuesday made reference to the 1967 Nigerian Civil War which led to the killing of over three million Nigerians.

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

Many Twitter users found the tweet offensive and reported it endlessly until it was deleted by Twitter.

Reacting to the removal of the tweet, a Twitter user @aimedeegbohon tweeted: “A genocide threat is what a nation gets when she refuses to pay attention to history! Fela was right after all.”

@olathrives tweeted: “Congrats Jack, you just earned yourself 10pts. It is Twitter FC (10) – Buhari FC (0). It’s really disappointing we wanted #Buhari to speak, now he’s spoken something unheard of & has been dealt with. He might be the next Trump on this bird app. Shame to Tolu & Garba Shehu”
