Nigerians have condemned the diversion of cattle, food items to neighbouring countries by foodstuff and cattle dealers in the Northern part of the country.
According to reports, food items were stopped from entering Kwara state and other states in the South West by some Northern youths on Friday.
The situation was connected to an ultimatum issued to the Federal Government by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) and the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria, over the ethnic clash at Shasha market in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The associations had demanded that the FG compensated the Northern traders to the tune of N4.7bn for the losses suffered during the crisis.
Reacting to the situation, Twitter users condemned the diversion of food items into the Southern part of the country and described it as an “act of war”.
