Nigeria’s Adekola emerges youngest best-graduating medical student in Cyprus varsity

In a momentous academic feat that has captured the admiration of many, 20-year-old Nigerian, Blessing Oluwafolakemi Adekola, has emerged as the top graduating student in Medicine at Cyprus International University (CIU), setting a new record as the youngest person to achieve this distinction in the institution’s history.
Born on February 7, 2005, into the family of Dr. Adetomiwa Adedokun Adekola and Mrs. Titilayo Fumilayo Adekola from Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Blessing’s academic brilliance has been evident from an early age.
Throughout her high school years, she consistently maintained top positions in her class, distinguishing herself as a high performer.
At just 14 years old, Blessing was admitted into Cyprus International University in 2019 to study Medicine.
According to her, the decision to attend CIU was influenced by both a familial connection—her siblings were already enrolled—and the welcoming environment the institution offered.
On June 18, 2025, Blessing’s years of hard work, resilience, and unshakable faith culminated in a double celebration, graduating with the highest honours in Medicine and becoming the youngest to ever do so at CIU.
Reflecting on her journey, Blessing described it as a rollercoaster of emotions and formidable challenges.
“The journey was far from easy,” she recounted. “But I give all the glory to God for seeing me through. Finding God along the way was the turning point and the foundation upon which this great achievement was built.”
Her academic path was not without hurdles.
She recalled early struggles with the intensity of the medical curriculum and adapting to a new cultural environment.
One of the most daunting challenges was learning Turkish, a necessity for effective communication with patients during clinical rotations.
Despite these challenges, Blessing persevered through sheer determination, unwavering discipline, and an unrelenting study ethic.
“Discipline, focus, dedication, consistent studying, and choosing not to give up even when the road got tough all played a vital role,” she said.
Blessing paid glowing tribute to her parents for their steadfast support and prayers and acknowledged the vital role played by her pastor, siblings, and close friends.
“Without them, this journey would have been far more difficult,” she added. “Each of them played a unique and valuable role in helping me reach this milestone.”
As she now looks ahead to the next chapter of her life and career, Blessing Adekola stands as a beacon of hope, discipline, and excellence—not just to young Nigerians but to young people around the world who dare to dream big and work diligently towards their goals.
