
Lagos State Model College, Kankon, Badagry, have emerged champions in the grand finale of the just concluded 2021 Lagos Senior Schools Debate Competition.
A statement by the Spokesman for Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mr. Ganiyu Lawal, said that Kankon pupils beat Igbonla Model College and Alapere Community High School to the second and third positions, respectively.
Also in the junior category, Ogunmodede College, Epe, Isheri-Oshun, Community Secondary School, and Lagos State Model College, Ojo, came first, second, and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, Agbado Ijaiye Primary School, Ifako Ijaiye, got the star price in the primary school’s category, while the second and third prices were won by Monsuru Agoro Memorial Primary School, Oshodi/Isolo, and St. Agnes Primary School, Kosofe.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, who spoke at the virtual grand finale, said that the competition was an initiative of the Lagos State Government.
She noted that it was aimed at producing socially stable and self-reliant students that could easily integrate into the larger society, adding that the competition was serving its purpose.
“The Ministry initiated this various competition to boost the confidence of students and apart from cognitive skills taught in the classroom, it will create an avenue for the children to explore the art of public speaking.
“This will also go a long way to inspire them in conducting research on various topics and trending issues,” Adelaja added.
She affirmed that the second virtual season was prompted in line with the education and technology agenda of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration’s commitment to revitalizing the education sector through the use of technology.
“As a government, we have made sure that teaching of English Language is greatly improved on in schools and our students can compete at various competitions.
“It will also prepare them to attend educational programs virtually through the use of mobile gadgets from the comfort of their homes”.

Adelaja congratulated all participants, emphasizing that they were all winners, adding that no one should feel bad for not emerging the overall best.
“I consider you all as winners and we are indeed proud of you,” she declared.
Newsmen report that all schools in the state were involved in the Department of Basic Education organized the Year 2021 Lagos State Schools Debate Competition.
