
No fewer than seven persons were yesterday burnt to death at Iyana Oworo area of Lagos, Lagos State, when a commercial bus caught fire due to an alleged reckless driving and over-speeding.
The accident, it was learnt, involved a commercial Mazda bus with 14 passengers, with registration number KJA 699 GY.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle, which was heading towards the 3rd Mainland Bridge, suddenly caught fire making its passengers to struggle out of the bus.
A girl reportedly ran out of the burning vehicle with fire all over her.
Twelve passengers were said to have been trapped, with the driver reportedly escaped from the vehicle with burns on his body.
Three other passengers, who reportedly escaped from the vehicle, were taken to the Gbagada General Hospital for treatment.

One of the passengers was said to have been treated at the scene of the incident and discharged.
Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) were at the scene of the incident trying to rescue those trapped in the burning vehicle. Others included men of the Nigeria Police Force.
A government source said four females, three males, including a child were burnt to death in the inferno.
The Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) officials reportedly evacuated the bodies from the scene of the accident.
The accident caused serious gridlock on the expressway as motorists had a difficult time driving past the burning vehicle. The burnt vehicle was still at the scene of the accident as efforts were made by the officials of the state emergency agency.
