Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has likened the 2027 general election to the just-concluded FIFA World Cup final.
He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress would be defeated despite what he alleged were institutional advantages.
In a post shared on his X account on Monday, Sowore compared his 2027 presidential ambition to Spain’s World Cup-winning team, describing his movement as youthful, energetic, ambitious, intellectually driven and ideologically grounded.
According to him, the ruling APC depended on “old tactics, cheap fouls and what many know as INEC’s poor officiating” to remain politically relevant.
Sowore further alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, alongside security agencies including the police, the military and the Department of State Services, would be unable to prevent the AAC from emerging victorious in the next general election.
He said, “The 2027 general election will be like that World Cup final. No matter how many goals INEC disallows, the outcome will leave Tinubu and his team dazed.
“Even with their preferred and handpicked referees at INEC and their ‘goalkeepers’, the police, the army and the DSS, they cannot stop the AAC.
“In the end, the Nigerian people will triumph over the rigging machine known as Tinubu.”
Sowore also noted that a video predicting the outcome of the World Cup final had been released several days before the match was played, suggesting it reflected his confidence in the comparison he drew between the tournament and Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
Neither the Presidency, INEC nor the security agencies had responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
