An artisan, Wasiu Oladimeji, on Thursday appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo for allegedly stealing electrical wires and sockets worth N800,000.
Oladimeji whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
The prosecutor, ASP Ojo Adewusi told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 25 at about 11:30a.m. at TVS Beside Precious Cornerstone School, Ofada, Abeokuta.
Adewusi alleged that Oladimeji who was hired by the complainant, Mrs Tina Ogbebor, for the plastering of her building, stole electrical wires and sockets valued at N800,000.
He stated that Oladimeji called Mrs Ogbebor to inform her that his apprentice was coming for the site keys, a pretext the defendant allegedly used to carry out the theft.
According to the prosecutor, it was discovered that the kitchen door was left open, which was used as the point of entry.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the defendant.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 355, 390 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs R.A Lawal, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties who must be registered bondsmen with the Ogun State Judiciary.
Lawal ordered that Oladimeji be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions and adjourned the case until Nov. 3 for hearing. (NAN)
