NIS arrests 30 illegal migrants in Ogun

No fewer than 30 suspected illegal migrants have been arrested by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in Ogun State.

The Ogun State Command of the NIS paraded the 30 young suspected illegal migrants in Abeokuta yesterday.

NIS Comptroller in Ogun, Abosede Olayemisi, told newsmen that the illegal migrants, who were Beninoise and Congolese, were also involved in defrauding fellow migrants.

Olayemisi disclosed that the suspects were nabbed in Abeokuta, saying they were caught defrauding fellow nationals with promises of unexisting businesses.

Their activities, she said, are capable of undermining national security, adding that they would be repatriated back to their countries of origin after due diligence.

“They are 30 in number and we apprehended them at their office where they gathered and doing illicit business, they are defrauding fellow foreign nationals by bringing them in and collecting money from them. They promised them employment in Nigeria.

“After taking money from them, they threw them to the street. The next thing is to repatriate them back to their home countries,” she said.

To ensure a crime-free yuletide, Ondo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, disclosed on Wednesday that its operatives will embark on patrols of border communities across the state.

According to the Commander of the Corps in the state, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the move will ensure that criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum during the yuletide.

Adeleye stated this while parading 11 suspected criminals at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure, the state capital.
