Israel prays that the emergency shipment brought to Gaza border through Egypt, will reach the hostages held by Hamas in the besieged Palestinian enclave.
The deal to send the shipment of medications to hostages was arranged by Qatar and France.
“We are praying that all medications brought to Gaza will reach the hostages, but this was just the beginning,”President Isaac Herzog said on Thursday
Herzog spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos ,sitting next to a picture of one-year-old Kfir Bibas, the youngest of the 132 hostages.
Herzog, whose role was largely ceremonial, repeated his government’s stand that the Gaza war must result in the removal of the ruling Palestinian Islamist faction, Hamas, whose fighters rampaged across southern Israel border on Oct 7.
Herzog said he was not going to shy away from the “human tragedy” inflicted on Gaza civilians.
He said Israel’s offensive was as a step towards more peaceful relations with the Palestinians in the future and bolstering of global security.
Herzog demanded world powers’ aid in post-war Gaza
Before the Oct.7 attack,, Israel was on a pathway to establish relations with Saudi Arabia, after doing so in 2020 with Gulf neighbors United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
“We all understand that there has to be a vision, and I think part of it should be also going back to the normalisation process of Israel and its neighbours in the region, I think of it as part of a package.” Herzog said.
“But that will require them to support Israel’s efforts to undermine the capabilities of Hamas, and it’s still there.”,he added. (Reuters/NAN)
