The National Judicial Institute Administrator, Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi, has urged court registrars and legal research assistants to embrace the use of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, in their day-to-day activities as it is s veritable tool for legal research
Justice Abdullahi, added that it is no exaggeration that the use of technology in research helps information collection and storage easier
The NJI Administrator said this while giving his welcome address, at the opening ceremony of the national workshop for legal research and legal writing, legal research assistant and registrars held in Abuja
He noted that the theme for the workshop which is “promoting speedy administration of justice through effective legal research” is intrusive, as it exposes participants to global best practices.
He further called on the court registrars to strictly adhere to the code of conduct for court officials, more so, when handling confidential information
He said “there is no gainsaying that the use of technology in your research allows for easier information retrieval; easy storage and many other numerous benefits of digitization and ICT.

“Certainly, information and communication technology, ICT, is a veritable tool for legal research and I urge participants to improve their literacy ability in terms of application of ICT in your day to day activities
“Going forward, let me especially enjoin registrars in your midst to be cautious in handling confidential information which they come across during their duties. As registrars, you must bear in mind that the salient provisions of the code of conduct for court employees must be your daily guide as you relate with court users” he said
He added that the workshop is beneficial to all participants as it exposes participants to global best practices, modern trends in legal research, writing and court administration
