The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has reacted to the statement credited to the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on the rationales behind the continuous incarceration of the leader of the proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, even after the court of competent jurisdiction has ordered for his release.
In a statement yesterday by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Igbo-apex socio-political group said Nigerians especially Ndigbo are encouraging Governor Wike to speak out courageously and attain the status quo that will make him the hero of the people.
The group said Wike will be celebrated by Nigerians as a fearless leader of note if his utterances could secure Nnamdi Kanu’s release from custody, as there is nothing to lose, so he should speak out the truth immediately.
“Governor Wike should not keep Nigerians in awe and suspense for a long period, Nigerians are eager to know the mysteries and truth associated with the continuous incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu.
“Nigerians are surprised that Federal Government has turned a blind eye and is yet to respond to the allegations from the Rivers State Governor, showing that there is more to it than meets the eyes, We had expected a swift but assertive response from the presidency to challenge Governor Wike to speak up on what he knows on Nnamdi Kanu except that they are remorseful and apologetic to their actions that led to the confinement of Nnamdi Kanu,” the Ohanaeze scribe stated.

He said Ndigbo has observed that the recent awareness of some governors to see that Kanu is set free from custody will help douse the rising violence, burning of INEC offices, and attempts to scuttle the 2023 elections in the southeast.
“Recently some Governors are speaking out about the dangers of the continuous incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu after the family members and the legal team had raised alarm about the Kanu’s failing health, we are encouraged by the postures on Nnamdi Kanu by Governor Soludo, Governor Ikpeazu, and more surprising is coming from Governor Wike.
“We are alerting the world that there are attempts by unpatriotic elements in collaboration with political musketeers to minimise the voting rights of the people in the southeast by instigating violence during the presidential elections using the continuous incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu to provoke Biafra agitators,” the statement added.
