The NNPC Foundation has donated and commissioned a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Kano State, to strengthen specialised healthcare services in Northern Nigeria.
The MRI system, installed at the federal health facility in Kano, is expected to improve the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, musculoskeletal and gynaecological conditions.
Hospital officials said the facility would reduce diagnostic delays and lessen the burden on patients who previously travelled long distances to access advanced MRI services.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, on Friday in Abuja.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on Thursday, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., represented by the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, said the intervention formed part of the company’s healthcare support initiatives across the country.
She said the organisation remained committed to delivering sustainable social investments that address critical national needs.
She described the MRI installation as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare, particularly for underserved communities.
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Yusuf, commended NNPC Foundation for the intervention, describing it as a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the state and the North-West region.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Isa Nurudeen, said the MRI machine would improve the hospital’s diagnostic capacity and overall service delivery.
The event was attended by officials of NNPC Ltd., hospital management, healthcare professionals, government representatives and community leaders.
