Troops arrest five suspected kidnappers, recover AK-47 rifles in Borno

Troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai have arrested five suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate during a coordinated operation in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.
The troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles in what security authorities described as a fresh breakthrough against criminal elements operating in the North-East region.
The operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected kidnappers along a known criminal corridor in the area.
The suspects were apprehended during a targeted raid aimed at disrupting the activities of armed groups accused of terrorising residents and travellers within parts of the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement on Friday by Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, who said troops recorded significant operational gains during the mission.
According to the statement, the operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunition, effectively disrupting the criminal network’s operational capability and denying the suspects the means to carry out further attacks.
“Acting on credible intelligence, troops conducted a well-coordinated operation along a known criminal corridor in Magumeri, leading to the arrest of five suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for terrorising innocent civilians within the area,” the statement said.
Military authorities said preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to kidnapping and other criminal activities in parts of Borno State.
The statement added that the arrested individuals are currently in custody and are assisting security agencies with ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending other members of the syndicate and dismantling its support networks.
The military described the operation as another demonstration of the sustained efforts of Operation Hadin Kai in combating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality across the North-East region.
According to the statement, the successful operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while maintaining offensive operations against criminal elements threatening national security.
The Army further reaffirmed its resolve to sustain ongoing military operations and work with other security agencies to ensure lasting peace, security and stability in Borno State and other parts of the country.
