Bird flu outbreak reported at Bulgarian farm

Bulgarian Food Safety Agency on Tuesday reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic bird flu at an industrial farm.
Bird flu also called avian influenza, is a viral infection that can infect not only birds but also humans and other animals. Most forms of the virus are restricted to birds
The virus was detected in a farm for laying hens near the village of Brod, some 230 km southeast of the capital Sofia, the agency said in a statement.
All measures have been taken immediately to eradicate the outbreak.

The 4,000 hens in the farm would be culled, it said.
According to the agency, this was the second bird flu outbreak at an industrial farm in Bulgaria this year.
