Tinubu sacks Edun, Dangiwa in fresh cabinet reshuffle

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has carried out a minor restructuring of his cabinet, relieving the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, as well as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, of their duties.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yomi Odunuga.

The announcement referenced a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

According to the directive, new appointments have been made to fill the vacant positions created by the reshuffle.

Taiwo Oyedele has been named the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Dr. Muttaqha Darma has been appointed as Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.

The memo also instructed the affected ministers to immediately begin the process of handing over to their successors or supervising officials, with a clear deadline set for completion.

“All handing over and taking over activities must be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026,” the directive stated.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume said the decision was part of efforts to improve coordination within the Federal Executive Council and enhance policy delivery under the administration’s economic blueprint.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.

He further noted that President Tinubu acted within his constitutional authority as provided under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation also conveyed the President’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation, while wishing them success in their future engagements.

He added that cabinet restructuring would remain an ongoing exercise aimed at improving governance performance.

The statement also recalled that Taiwo Oyedele had earlier been appointed Minister of State for Finance in March 2026, while Wale Edun was part of the initial cabinet inaugurated on August 16, 2023.
