NPF dismisses officer who flogged man with machete

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed an officer, PC Liyomo Okoi, who assaulted a man with a machete in Cross Rivers state.

Recall that Okoi was caught on video last week assaulting the unidentified man with the dangerous weapon while onlookers’ pleas to stop fell on deaf ears.


His dismissal was confirmed in a statement by the Force Public Relation Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi on Monday.

The statement reads “GROSS MISCONDUCT: NPF has dismissed PC LIYOMO OKOI, Force No 524503, attached to Ekori Divisional Police Headquarters, Cross River State, who was captured in a video that went viral on 31st July 2022, where he was flogging a civilian with cutlass.

“With effect from today 8th August, 2022 He is ceased to be a member of the NPF, and we urge members of the public not to have any official dealings or transactions with him henceforth.
“We will always do the needful to sanitise the NPFand uphold the standards and values of the Nigeria Police Force. THANKS”
