NSITF: We’re striving to beat down health challenges for workers, says Okenwa

Executive Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, Prof. Gabriel Okenwa, Thursday, said ProHealth , which is a health maintenance organisation is committed to ensuring that workers in the country enjoy affordable healthcare.

Okenwa, who is also the Chairman of ProHealth Board, established by the NSITF, gave the assurance in Abuja while speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the organisation.

He pledged to expand the operational frontiers of the agency to make its numerous benefits available to Nigerian workers.

In a statement issued by Mrs. Ijeoma Oji-Okoronkwo, General Manager, Corporate Affairs, NSITF, Okenwa explained that the Fund established ProHealth as a special purpose vehicle to realize its social security mandates in line with the ILO Convention No 102 on Minimum Medicare Standards.

He said the essence of the meeting was to take stock and chart a new course for the organisation.

According to him, “We are here to discuss the performance of our organisation, account for the duty and assets entrusted to our care, and reflect on the successes and challenges we face as well as outline strategic priorities for the years ahead.

“Making affordable medical care accessible to the world of work is my mission as I take charge as the Chairman of the board of ProHealth.”

He described the agency’s previous year as one of mixed fortunes and added that only an expanded drive to enrol more Nigerians into the health scheme will boost its fortunes.

He further said that for the first time in the history of the organisation, payment of dividends to its shareholders will be made and further announced new members of the board of the agency including Mrs Ijeoma Oji-Okoronkwo and Innocent Eremionkhale as non-executive directors.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of ProHealth, Chinedu Nnabuihe said he is focused on the company’s growth process and pledged to work in harmony with board and members of staff to achieve this.

Other board members in attendance at the meeting included, Mr Gana Modu who is the Executive Director of Operations at the NSITF, Barr. Innocent Eremionkhale, Oluseyi Osho, Dr. Josephine Anenechukwu and Christian Ikebundu.
