Nwaboshi hails FG’s policy to increase agriculture varsities

The Senator representing, Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, has commended the policy of the Federal Government to establish a university with specializations in agriculture in every geo-political zone of the country, described it as a right step in the right direction.

Nwaboshi, who made this known in his lead debate for the Second Reading of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Aboh (Establishment) bill 2021 in the senate, also said the institution to be located in Delta State is for the south-south region in line with the equitable policy.

He expressed confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari, as a lover of agriculture, would accent to the bill when passed by the National Assembly and give South-South the university for the sake of posterity.

Nwaboshi asserted at last Tuesday’s plenary of the Senate that: “Rome was not built in a day. The challenges of past ‘developmental limitations’ must be put behind us, and new strategies put in place to Ndokwa Nation their heart desire – reference this laudable Federal University of Agriculture and technology to be located in a very ancient and prominent Aboh Kingdom – A centre of huge historic heritage that had diplomatic, trade relations with England, in the 18th century cum 19th century, when most communities in Nigeria were asleep!

“The laudable project will restore the fading light of Aboh and by extension the whole of the peace – loving people of Ndokwa Nation whose resources in petroleum, gas and electricity power generation, with a peaceful, rich human capital endowment of women and youths, globally, have contributed hugely to national development and prosperity! They [Ndokwa Nation] want this institution; they deserve it; let’ give it to them.”

He submitted that it would be in everyone’s interest to fully harness the country’s abundant but untapped agricultural and other natural resources through formal organized and specialized academic studies and research.

The bill seconded by the Deputy Senate president, Ovie Omo-Agege, and referred by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND for further legislative business and report back within four weeks.
