Nwuche commends Tinubu, Wike over peaceful FCT, Rivers, Kano elections

A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over what he described as the successful and peaceful conduct of the recent elections in the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers and Kano states.

In a statement on Sunday, Nwuche lauded the outcome of the FCT Area Council elections, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) won five of the six area councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured one seat. He also noted that the APC recorded victories in the bye-elections conducted in Rivers and Kano states.

The former lawmaker described the peaceful conduct of the polls as a positive affirmation of Nigeria’s growing democratic maturity, stating that the orderly and calm atmosphere that characterised the exercise reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that the will of the people prevails.

According to him, peaceful elections remain the bedrock of any thriving democracy, adding that the credibility of the process would further enhance public confidence in the nation’s electoral system.

Nwuche also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for what he termed their professionalism, vigilance and dedication to duty throughout the exercise.

He particularly praised Wike for what he called bold, pragmatic and people-centred leadership in the FCT, noting that ongoing infrastructure development across the territory has positively impacted residents and indigenous communities.

The former Deputy Speaker said accelerated road construction, rehabilitation and expansion, as well as improvements in public facilities, had boosted public morale and confidence in governance.

He added that good governance and visible development remain critical tools for consolidating democratic gains and sustaining public trust in leadership.
