NYG: Give your all, Bayelsa govt tasks athletes

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports Development, Chief Mightyman Dikuro has charged athletes representing Bayelsa State in the ongoing Zonal Elimination Tournament for the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State to do their best to ensure they qualify for the Fiesta.

Addressing a Cross Section of the athletes upon arrival in the Delta State capital, he commended those who are doing well to keep up the tempo and enjoined those who lost to see it as a stepping stone to more competitions in the future.

Recalling his days as a student he said he took part in multi-sports and was part of the handball team to major Games.

The Permanent Secretary challenged the young athletes to strive for excellence at all times, promising that the Governor Douye Diri-led administration was ever prepared to reward outstanding performances.

Chief Dikuro hinted that the State Government would soon organise the State’s Principal Cup for Schools to compete in.

According to him, the tournament will enable officials to identify and groom budding talent from schools to represent the State and the country.

The Permanent Secretary was accompanied on the visit by the Director of Sports in the State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi and, and other top officials.
